I was just wondering if it could get a virus from using the browser. can anyone help me out?Can the Wii get a virus???
NoCan the Wii get a virus???
Yes
Possibly... though you have a better chance of getting shot and then winning the lottery on the same day. The thing with computer viruses, just like living viruses, is that they have to be ''adapted to their environment'', in this case the operating system. And close to all computer viruses are designed to target Windows. Another problem is that the browser is unable to actually download anything to memory, which is how almost all viruses are ''caught''. So someone would have to find a hole in the browser, which is close to impossible since the Wii is a closed system. And then even if it could find its way on your system, it would have to find a way into the firmware in order to cause any permanent damage, which is also next to impossible.
Yes
nope
I really have never heard of it getting a virus, so I don't think so. Of course, I don't know for sure, but I don't really think its possib.e.
Honestly, this is a big relief for me. I don't want anything bad to happen to my saved game data just because I used the Wii's web browser.
oh mkay thanx guys/gals :)
Your wii can't, but the controllers can if you don't strap them up. So put those jackets on those wiimotes!
No. The Wii can't open or use .exe files so your safe to look at your porn.
None exist, but that doesn't make it impossible. I'm surprised someone out there who has a wii dev kit hasn't been malicious enough to design a virus. Can you imagine the pain of having a virus on your Wii? There would be no way to get it off, you'd have to send it to Nintendo.
Not if it wears a condom.
Every operating system can be infected by viruses and, although the Wii SO is surely different from windows, I'm sure some lowlife already made a compatible virus. Need to be careful.
There is only one injection point that I can think of in reference to the Nintendo Wii and thats the WiiConnect24. With a Wii on and receiving information all the time, it can download news, weather, and other update items that by themselves seem inocuous however if someone were to hijack that signal...could inject their own code into the download stream. That however could only be done locally within physical range of the Wii. That is assuming that you have your Wii set up via WiFi. Connected via LAN cable...they would have to hack Nintendo to perform any kind of injection.
i suppose it could, but i dont see a real point someone creating a virus for the wii, unless the like to cause havoc and maybe try and steal credit card info, but its still very hard to do, so it makes it unlikely
I agree. The only reason is to create havoc and see people squirm as their Wii's break down. Pathetic really.

Lol I just posted the same question.
Yes, it can get a virus. What people don't realize is that ANY file that can be executed is at risk of being infected. Obviously, the Wii has files that can execute through the browser (or it would not function). I have seen cell phone viruses, computer router viruses, even cars are becoming vulnerable to viruses due to all of the telecommunication systems in them in this day and age. The good news is that the vast majority virus makers make virus's to get their 5 seconds of fame (relatively,VERY few virus's are made to steal information). The usual virus making punk is not going to waste years of their lives to find holes in the VERY closed Wii architecture just for kicks. Then again, there are a hand-full that would. So the short answer is that it is very possible, but very unlikely.
Going on something you shouldnt then
