Yeah, it doesn't really make sense for anything. Their VC games already have some sort of encoding on them, there's no need to block SD cards for anything piracy-related. If anything, the Wii needs more space. SD would make a great expansion slot, since they hold more space than the internal flash.
If there was no internal memory, than SD cards woulds be used in the same way as the now antiquted ''console memory card''. However because the Wii has internal memory, and because most developers prefer to only program for what the player is guaranteed to have, they're only including support for that now.

Of course the integrated memory is supported for all games, why not have removable memory support too? Just because some people don't own an SD card doesn't mean they need to intentionally cripple its functionality for everyone.

How about channels? can I copy them to the SD then erase then from the Wiis internal memory? Will the channels work after this process?
