Yeah, you could use the Wiimote and Nunchuk. After playing with the gamecube controller a lot with Melee, my friend made the transition with Brawl. He says it takes a bit of time to get used to but now he has trouble going back to the GC controller.Besides, the Wiimote sideways is also a good choice. It's surprisingly comfortable.
The Gc controller is the classic and best option to play Brawl. But I know a lot of people that use the wiimote plus nunchuck and find it comfortable.
The 2 best are the Wii Classic Controller and the Gamecube Controller
